It's OK to be sad.
By Heather F.
My daughter is about to start Kindergarten so we spend a lot of time talking about feelings. We talk about how her actions can make others feel and how others actions can make her feel. We let her know that it’s ok to be mad and sad and happy, but that it’s how she acts during those times that impact others. Our hope is that she understands the “why” behind what she does and feels. A great way to help explain all of this is through books.

I was given the opportunity to purchase Pink Tears free of charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. Pink Tears is about Lolly, a young furry pink character that becomes sad when nobody is playing with her. She keeps her feelings of sadness bottled up inside, without talking to anyone. She slowly starts turning blue on the outside to match how she is feeling on the inside. Her parents try to talk to her and tell her that she needs to let the pain out, but she doesn’t listen. One morning the sadness becomes too much and the tears pour out, turning her pink again. The release of sadness makes her feel better and she goes to meet her friends.

I feel like this book addresses sadness, but left my daughter with a lot more questions than an understanding of the message. Questions like why didn’t Lolly ask to play with the others, why didn’t Lolly’s parents give her a hug, why did Lolly think it wasn’t ok to cry even though her parent’s told her it was, and what did Lolly think was missing at the end? All of these questions I tried my best to answer, but I think took away from the true message of the story.

Great Conversation Starter for a Hard Topic
By Renee Knows Reviews
Feelings can be the source of several difficult conversations with a child. This cute little book can help start some of those. It follows the main character Lolly through a tough day in which none of her friends play with her. At first Lolly is a little sad and as she bottles up the emotions she turns blue in color as her sorrow grows until she cries. Once Lolly has cried and let her emotions flow through her, she is able to feel like herself again and the book ends with her getting together with her friends. The book is short and a little vague as to why exactly Lolly's friends don't play with her but my child didn't mind a simple explanation of "they must have all been busy" but you may need to be prepared. I think it is a cute book and not too long for a quick read. My child enjoyed it and there were some good conversation topics about feelings and sadness that can be difficult to talk about with children built into the story. I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love how it teaches about emotions and how to not ...
By Miss Carla
The book Pink Tears is really cute, I love how it teaches about emotions and how to not bottle them up. My son really liked the book as well and kept pointing at Lolly! I wish the book would have gone into some more detail about how or why the others were not playing with Lolly and then the end was a little sudden with her just going back out and everything was fine.

But the illustrations speak to children more then words and this shows what happens when you keep it all inside and are simply beautiful.

I received this item at a discount in exchange for a review, all opinions are mine and unbiased.
