Unlike some who feel the need to share their uninformed opinions on books they haven't even read, I have read a copy of the bound galley of Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies. It is a thoroughly researched, well-written take down of all the major canards of the left.

Amazon visitors are free to believe "reviewers" who admit to not having read it, or you can believe me, who has read it, or you could take it from one of America's great conservative intellectuals, Mr. Thomas Sowell, who had this to say about the book in a Human Events column yesterday,

"Each year about this time, some parents write in to ask for suggestions of things for their children to read during the summer, in order to counteract the steady diet of liberal-left indoctrination they have been getting in schools and colleges.

A Conversation with the Author

Pity Gregg Jackson. Poor guy, all he has going for him is a great life, a loving wife, and a nineteen month old son that he adores. He's also personable, intelligent, well-informed, articulate, and successful. And, true, he does have a best selling book, Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies, co-hosts Boston's Pundit Review Radio, is a contributing editor at [...] is frequently published in such journals as Current Events and Human Events. And he often gets to chat with people like Tony Blankley, who interviewed him recently.

So, why pity him? The poor guy lives in the cradle of American democracy, but his Congressional Representative is Barney Frank and his United States Senators are named Kerry and Kennedy!

Okay, forget the pity party for that unfortunate situation. But at least pity him for being a cockeyed optimist. He actually believes that, despite the dire state of affairs in the United States, someone the likes of Ronald Reagan will step forward in 2008 to rescue the nation from the Kerrys, the Kennedys, the Hillarys, the Obamas and other such ilk and lead us to another shining city on the hill and to a Reagan-esque Revolution that will re-direct our currently disintegrating cultural and political path and, like Reagan, resurrect American's belief in itself and in our future.

I recently had the distinct pleasure of having an hour long conversation with Gregg and I came to a pretty fair estimation of who and what he is. I had read and reviewed Conservative Comebacks for Citizen Journal and we discussed his book as well as a number of other topics and he revealed what makes Gregg Jackson tick. It is complex but I think I have the man pegged. He's essentially a romantic involved in a long-term love affair with God, Family and Country. (How outrageous a notion is that! How antiquated!)

A self-described born-again Christian, a Hebrew born-again Christian to boot, Gregg is a gregarious and loquacious sort who feels passionately about many things, especially the state of affairs in which our nation finds itself today and one of his first comments had to do with religion and how it relates to his own and our national well-being. He believes we've lost our moral compass and the result could very well be catastrophic.

Religion and the Bible suffuse Conservative Comebacks, from the "Acknowledgments," replete with Biblical quotations from Proverbs, to his conviction throughout this conservative primer that the disintegration of our Judaeo-Christian values is the core problem our nation faces today. Gregg elaborated on that during our talk and also unabashedly admitted he is indeed a religious man as well as a devoted husband and father.

I fully concur with his political beliefs but questioned whether there was anyone out there who could carry the Reagan mantle, and he proffered former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, and Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas. All of these, I reminded him, carry either a heavy load of baggage (Newt) or the far more daunting challenge of national obscurity (all the others). Ever sanguine, Gregg wasn't phased by my effort at playing Devil's Advocate and held firm that any and all of the above could win the nomination and the general election. I mentioned Mitt Romney, Governor of Massachusetts, as a possible candidate. As a resident of that Commonwealth, Jackson is well-attuned to its political machinations and shenanigans and was almost visceral in his rejection of that possibility, citing Romney's tax policies and his Hillary-light, socialistic medicine initiatives.

I asked his reaction to the passing of Gerald Ford, and his view was that of most conservatives "that Ford was a good and decent man but of the 'checkered pants' Eastern liberal Rockefeller-Republican School of thought, that is to say, a non-Reagan.

Jackson is also no great fan of George W. Bush. Then again, who is, whether we're liberals or conservatives? He vehemently disagrees with Bush's immigration and spending policies but still feels that we have a roaring economy which should sustain us, despite the billions being spent in Iraq.. He also feels that a Rudy Giuliani or a John McCain would neither succeed nor carry on what Reagan began.

Likewise, as most thinking people, he believes we will be attacked again and points to Jihad-ism as the most serious threat we face. Jackson believes the war in Iraq, despite all the snafus and the costs in materiel, national treasure, and, worst of all, the cost in lives of America's Finest and Bravest, was and is a war of necessity.

Jackson firmly believes that a Neo Reagan-Republican Revolution is needed in these United States but that the likes of Romney, Giuliani, or McCain, or long-time Democrat Mayor Bloomberg of New York City, are not the people who can bring that about. A landslide victory in 2008 is needed and quasi-Republicans of their stripe have never and will never generate a landslide comparable to 1980 and 1984.

On Dem hopefuls, we agreed that a Hillary-Obama ticket is a very real threat in many ways -- and we discussed Senator Clinton's subterfuges to hide her true, radical views, her lies and deceptions which have in large part succeeded in bamboozling the electorate of New York State during her six years as a carpetbagette.

At the end of our conversation, I asked Jackson if he had ever considered running for office. Not surprisingly, he has and he would. (I didn't ask what Mrs. Jackson thought of the idea.) Gregg would have to take on Barney Frank for his district's House seat but the bugaboo of financing such a campaign is an ever-present reality; he feels it would take a war chest of some five million dollars to run an effective and winning race. He'd also consider a run against Senator John Heinz Kerry but estimates that would require at least fifteen million.

Personally, I think Gregg would be a far better choice than either of them.

Subsequent to our chat, Gregg e-mailed an addendum to our interview. He wrote:

"Gene, Thanks again for a fantastic interview and opportunity to discuss the issues. One last point that you can quote me on: You asked what my outlook for the future was. I predict a re-emergence of love of God and country never experienced before in our nation. We will answer the call of our generation in defense of Western Civilization and American sovereignty. With regards to the Jihadist totalitarian threat and the domestic insurgency (i.e. Liberal Democrats), to quote Ronald Reagan, 'We win. They lose.'"

From Gregg's e-mail to God's ears. But, trust me, Gregg, it wasn't necessary because your faith in our nation and confidence in our future had already come through, loud and clear. True Americans pray and hope you're right.

About the Author

No Correlating Sources, Nor Solutions to Questions

The guide provides a "grip" of network scenarios, however, I perceived the book stood on it own where the reader reads / reviews cisco networking concepts and then answers questions based on what was read. I began answering questions (matching, fill in the blanks) and then couldn't find where any solutions were or determine whether I had answered the questions correctly? If there is another book that works in conjunction with this guide, the author should explain this when you purchase the guide? Thumbing through the book, however, disappointed in the format. Author should be more explicit about the guides uses and where the information that generated the questions in the guide are derived from. There should be a simple and obvious location for solutions to the questions.

I enjoyed the book in the beginning

I enjoyed the book in the beginning. However, it has errors. I could not continue on with the book, because of the errors in previous chapters on the worksheets. So I honestly just put it down. I may need to see my options for a refund since I order books all the time, maybe I can have a credit.

Excellent Resource for Learning Bookkeeping

This book is useful both for students new to bookkeeping and for professionals with bookkeeping experience. The book is easy to read with diagrams, questions, and exercises. Each chapter highlights terms and their definitions. There is an answer key in back so that you can check your answers to the problems. I highly recommend this book for those who want to learn bookkeeping. It also makes a great reference book for those who already know some bookkeeping.

About the Author
"I didn't know a harp could do that!" is a remark often heard at Laurie Riley's concerts. Known for her ability to make a harp sound like a whole new instrument, she can make it speak, make it laugh and cry. Audiences feel her music as a visceral experience. A professional musician since the age of ten, Laurie has toured throughout the US, in Canada, and in Ireland. She plays selections from around the world, from historical times, as well as compositions of her own. "The richness of various cultures' musical styles offers endless ways to express what I play. Whether it's Celtic, South American, Scandinavian, Israeli, Ukranian... there is something new in each tradition." Through her playing, the double-strung harp has emerged as an exciting new sound in the world of harps. She was instrumental in designing the modern double-strung harp which has become popular in recent years among harpers. Two rows of strings played at the same time make this instrument sound like a duet of two harps. She has recorded eleven albums of harp music, authored five books, and made five instructional videos. She also judges harp competitions and teaches for harp organizations in the US and abroad. "As a musician, I am gratefully aware that I hold in my hands the experience of music as a metaphor for life, which is offered as a gift to all who gather to listen." Beth Kolle performs Celtic and Nordic music on harp, flute and Irish pennywhistle, both as a soloist and with various groups in Seattle. She travels in the US, Canada, Europe and Scandinavia to teach and perform. Beth has taken groups of harp players with her to Scandinavia on two performance tours to wide acclaim. Teach Yourself Lever Harp?

I have always been touched by the sound of a harp and recently I have been blessed by the opportunity to acquire one. A dream I didn't know I had until it became true. I love my harp :)
Having a harp, I needed music and instructions for how to play. I bought this Mel Bay book as it seemed to be a step by step guide. I started playing.

After only a week or two, I realized that there was no way I was going to master the technique of playing without some teaching from someone who knows about playing harps. I have now had about 10 lessons, and I look at this book and I am amazed at how Mel Bay could possible claim that you can teach yourself to play harp!

Correct posture is SO important, correct finger movement is SO important, and not easy to learn if you don't have anyone to show you how - and someone to keep correcting and adjusting your efforts. Teaching yourself will not only lead to probable inflammations of all kinds of muscles (finger, shoulder, arm and back!!!), but you are also likely to practice a technique which will inhibit your playing at more advanced levels. And then, it is very difficult to 'unlearn' what has become automatic.

The music pieces in the book are in themselves quite nice - although not original. Most are well known traditional songs. Some pieces are set up in easy, medium and hard levels. So you can begin to play from the book quite soon - but I strongly recommend you do so under guidance of someone who knows what they're doing! Even the easy level pieces suggest you start playing with all fingers. Whilst each finger ought to be trained (in movement, strength and hard skin!!) before another one is added to your playing. By the time you've trained all your fingers, the easy level pieces in the book become obsolete because they're TOO easy!

The book is fine to have amongst your collection, it's pretty to look at. But to be honest I don't recommend it - certainly not as a 'teach yourself' book.

Wonderful

Nessie and Sam are feeling quite at home in Little Monkham. They're running the Star and Sixpence together and things are going well. Valentine's Day will be a special event at their village pub. They've hired a famous chef to make a wonderful dinner for their guests. They're taking care of all the couples in the village, but will there also be room for their own love life?

I love the Star and Sixpence, it's such a wonderful fictional place. It feels cozy and warm. Nessie and Sam are sisters. I really like stories about sisters and enjoy reading this series so much because they're an interesting pair. Nessie is the more quiet one of the two, but she's becoming braver. I especially enjoyed reading the scene in which she and Owen have a drink together at the end of Valentine's Day.

I love romantic holidays and could totally picture the meal and the guests. It was fun to read about the inhabitants of Little Monkham again. Holly Hepburn's stories are great. She's chosen a fantastic setting and her main characters are fabulous. I think this series is fun and am already looking forward to the next novella.

Flirty, fabulous and fast!

Last year I fell in love with Sam and Nessie's story! Aside the fabulously sparkly story, I absolutely adore those gorgeous covers for The Star and Sixpence series!

The second installment in this series is only 37 pages long, but it is packed with love and charged with the energy of highly likable protagonists and a fantastically enticing storyline.

All seem well in Sam and Nessie's world, their pub is now a thriving business that appears to attract more and more customers and with Sam's skills in PR, they are set for a fantastic Valentines's Day event. I love the way Sam and Nessie come up with all those ideas to bring in more customers, and they are pulling some serious stars in, this time it is arising Chef from London. There is always something to look forward to when visiting the charming Star and Sixpence with their famously crafted cocktails and beers!

I loved that Sam and Joss's relationship is getting a bit more serious, and I think Joss is turning Sam into more of a romantic that she thought she'll ever be. While Nessie still needs a little push to get her relationship going with the hunky blacksmith Owen. Maybe Valentine's Day festivities will give her more courage to address this "hot on her mind" issue!

My Round Up

The Valentine's Day at The Star and Sixpence is definitely worth sampling, especially when it is FREE on Amazon Kindle! I love every minute I spend revisiting Little Monkham, and I can't wait to dive into the third installment in April!

So far, I'm finding the Star and Sixpence Series really cute and warm

I recently picked Valentine's Day at the Star and Sixpence, the second installment in the Star and Sixpence Series, and really enjoyed it. This novella (75 pages) takes us back to Little Monkham, where sisters Nessie and Sam are giving it a go to run their late father's local pub. After a bumpy start, it looks like the business is picking up and the new and refreshing ideas that the sisters have incorporated are working.

Something I loved from the first installment, Snowdrops at the Star and Sixpence, was the charming setting and the small village atmosphere, where everyone knows about everyone and this is something that I found again in this second installment. With every page I felt more and more connected to this story and its quirky characters and I even started to warm to the "ice queen" of the village.

Being a story around Valentine's Day, there's obviously a good pinch of romance in the air and it looks like the sisters' love lives are going to be quite alive in the next parts. I certainly cannot wait to find out more about them, especially as there's a dashing blacksmith involved!

So far, I'm finding the Star and Sixpence Series really cute and warm. I'm sure we are in for quite a few surprises and giggles in the future and I cannot wait to pick the next one and find out more about this lively community.

The book to help you handle Linux system admin duties with aplomb

This book is borne out of the author's own experiences over the years solving day to day problems in his work. That should give anyone confidence that the examples in this book are as real-world as they can be. Veterans from the DOS days will fondly remember creating batch files to accomplish a myriad of tasks. If you are one of them and switched to an OS like Unix or Linux, this is the book to get. Everything from file permissions, process management, task scheduling, text processing to interactive shell scripting is covered here. Want to backup a folder in the middle of the night and want its status emailed to you? Check. Have a complex operation in mind involving loops, file handling, arrays, functions and message dialogs? The author arms you with the necessary information to achieve that. The final chapters take the readers through understanding the Linux startup process and customizing the system environment as well as using regular expressions for complex pattern matching. For sure is not the only book about shell scripting (books on this topic have started since '70 years), but it's really good and with a step by step approach.
You start learning some common Unix commands (included some Unix/Linux concepts), the job control, the text filtering features.
With all this basis you start build some scripts using variables, flows, conditions.
Several tricks are included and also several examples.Finally it's included also a part to build text based window interface with dialog.
Considering that shell scripting is still used (also if languages like Perl, Ptyton, Ruby can totally replace them), this book is really useful for Linux/Unix system administrator and people that need to learn on how programming with shell script language.

Dr. Mrinmoy Majumder is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Hydro-Informatics Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Agartala, India.
